The kiddo really wanted to go see Elio in the theater and had been asking for the past few weeks. He woke up early this morning to get ready for our 11AM showing.
It was…an ok film. I say this because it’s a Pixar film and so I expect to be pulled at the heart strings and to experience devastation and joy. I didn’t get any of that. There were cute moments for sure but the edit of the story maybe took out too much because I couldn’t quite connect to Elio or any of the other characters – i.e., were there long flashback scenes that were deleted?
It was the whole narrative challenge of telling the audience how to feel versus showing the audience how to feel. It was a whole lot of telling.
