I scheduled time with the Genius Bar the other week to replace the battery on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I thought it would be a quick in-and-out situation but the minutes turned into 2.5 hours.
The folks were super nice, but it was still a long wait. Finally, they shared the bad news. They tried twice to replace the battery and the logic board ended up getting fried. What did that mean? That meant my phone was dead.
I was on the fence about upgrading but wanted to give the battery replacement a shot so that I could maybe squeeze a couple more years out of it. But, I guess the decision was made for me.
The options were either to try and find another iPhone 13 Pro Max or another phone of my choice.
Luckily, I’d done a lot of research beforehand on which new phone would be best for me. It was between the iPhone 17e and iPhone 17. I opted for the iPhone 17 in lavender – the camera quality and functions sold me on it.
“You’re taking this all very well,” the Apple genius bar staff said cautiously.
It was fine. It’s not like they purposely broke it. Things happen.
“We’re going to make this right,” they said.
And make it right they did.
They charged me for the battery replacement which was $89 and gave me the full trade-in value for the now dead phone. I don’t know what calculations they did, but in the end I was only charged the battery replacement.
Sweet.
During the 2.5 hour wait, I should’ve grabbed dinner or hung around the Back Bay, but I stayed put and finished this tree frog drawing:

I was still productive.
Anyhoo, the long wait was worth it in the end. I got a new phone (before prices shoot up) and I have a new drawing that I’m pretty happy with.
