I’ve taken a long break from making comics and it was a necessary break. I needed to re-discover my love of writing and drawing again – appreciating that I have a particular point of view and style that is all my own. I’m not here to measure up to some nebulous idea in my head of what’s worthy because all art is worthy.
I started to doubt what I bring to the table – it’s not interesting enough…it’s not perfect enough. Well, I’ve come to the realization that it is enough in whatever condition it’s in.
I enjoy crafting an idea in 4 panels. I enjoy documenting my experiences juggling parenthood, my own parents, culture and family dynamics – to find the humor in frustrating situations. It’s a way for me to see things through a different lens that’s beyond myself as I bounce around and inhabit different characters.
Anyhow, I’m happy to be creating again – no longer paralyzed by the fear of imperfection. My comics will appear in the Sampan Newspaper once again as well as on my comics site.
It’s great to be back.
